LTFRB approves 58 new routes, 1,285 modern jeepneys

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approves 58 new routes for the implementation of Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

During the 10th LTFRB Board Meeting held last 16 April 2019 the Board approved a total of 58 routes covering Regions 2, 3, 8, 10 and 11. 34 out of 58 routes are approved while the remaining 24 are subject for survey validation. On the other hand, 925 authorized PUVMP compliant units are based on approved routes and 360 units are based on routes for survey validation rounding a total of 1,285 PUVMP compliant units.

These routes will be open for application for the issuance of new Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) to operate Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) in the country for the program’s initial implementation.

The Board Meeting was led by Chairman Martin Delgra, III together with Board Members Gen. Antonio Gardiola, Jr. (Ret.), Engr. Ronaldo F. Corpus, Technical Division Head Mr. Joel Bolano and Office of the Regional Director Representative Ms. Joanne D. Elmedolan.

The Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) was officially launched by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in January 2018 as the flagship program of the Duterte Administration which envisions a restructured, modern, well-managed and environmentally sustainable transportation system.
The PUVMP will not only ensure that commuters get to their destinations quickly, safely and comfortably but will also provide Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators to have stable, sufficient and dignified livelihoods.

Pursuant to the program’s implementation, the DOTr has given the LTFRB authority to deliberate and take appropriate actions on proposed routes. Moreover, LTFRB also has the power to prescribe and regulate routes of service, economically viable capacities and zones or areas of operation of public land transportation services provided by motorized vehicles.

The success of the program will revolutionize road-based public land transportation and will usher in an improved comfortable travel experience for the benefit of present and future generations of Filipino passengers and drivers alike.
