Teacher in Sarangani buys P7,667 worth of ‘toga’, caps for poor students

An elementary teacher in Sarangani Province is now getting all the praises online after she used her own money to buy toga (graduation gowns) and caps for her poor students.

Netizen named Cris Cordero posted online about the heartwarming act of selflessness and generousity of a certain Ma’am Virgita Diaz, a teacher at Kiblat Elementary School in Malungon, Sarangani Province.

Cordero said that Teacher Diaz who shelled P7,667 to buy the sets of academic gowns which will be used for moving up ceremony of her Grade 6 students.

In a report by ABS-CBN, Diaz narrated that the parents themselves voted in a meeting that their children will wear toga during the ceremonies.

“After the meeting there were parents who said ‘Ma’am, we really like the gown but we can not afford,” she said.

Diaz then went all the way to Gaisano mall in General Santos City and purchased toga and caps.

“Based on my count, 18 of them has no toga and 21 has no cap. It would cost a lot, but I knew it would make them happy wearing these togas so I bought it,” Diaz added.

“Thank you, because she is kind and she love us,” said Shiena Marie Adana, one of the students who benefited from her act of goodness.

With net pay of only around P6,000, Diaz showed the true spirit of sacrifice for the joy of her students, whom she considers as own children. You truly are worthy of cheers and emulation, Ma’am Diaz! (Photo credit: Cris Cordero)
